Marble Coaster Workshops FAQ

There are 2 types of materials that you can choose from for your Concrete Everything workshop. Concrete is the main material used for larger crafts, while jesmonite was introduced as a light-weight alternative to cast concrete crafts and is now used as the second main material.
Concrete is a building material that is formed when fine and coarse material like sand, gravel and crushed stone are bound together and harden over time using a fluid cement paste, which is typically made by adding water to cement-like material.
Jesmonite is a quick-dry building material comprising gypsum composite, which was acrylic-modified to become an eco-friendly and safe alternative to fibreglass and a lighter alternative to cast concrete. The curing process for concrete will take around 3 to 4 days to reach its optimal strength and durability while the curing process for jesmonite takes around 6 to 24 hours for it to reach its optimal strength and durability. Both materials will further strengthen and become more durable over time with concrete taking months to years to reach its full strength and durability.
Jesmonite is not a food-grade product, so it is not safe to put food onto Jesmonite products directly. We recommend using a food-grade sealant to coat the Jesmonite product before use.
You will be able to bring your craft back on the day itself as concrete will set within 1 to 2 hours, which makes it suitable to be carried around. However, as the curing process for concrete takes at least 3 days, it is highly recommended to handle your concrete crafts with care as the material is still fragile and prone to cracks during this time.
You will be able to bring your craft back on the day itself as jesmonite cures extremely quickly. However, do be more careful in handling your jesmonite piece for the next 24 hours as it would be more fragile, so try your best not to drop it.
Our facilitators would start with a brief introduction of jesmonite, before moving onto the hands-on activity which includes a live demonstration. The session would conclude with a photo-taking session with everyone holding their completed jesmonite crafts.
The required materials include containers and measuring devices, jesmonite pigments and most importantly jesmonite powder and liquid! You would also need some tools to help you with the mixing. All these materials are provided for you at our jesmonite workshops, along with various add-ons such as sealant, and terrazzo flakes for our terrazzo workshops.
No prior knowledge or experience is required for any Concrete Everything workshop! Our workshops are suitable for beginners and our skilled facilitators will bring you through the process of creating your concrete / jesmonite craft step-by-step. Not only would it be an enriching and fulfilling experience for you, but you also get to keep and admire your artwork after the workshop.
In the hustle and bustle of Singapore's city life, concrete and jesmonite crafts are wonderful additions to our home and office spaces. They add to the aesthetics of our environment which can be pleasing to the eye.
Any types of events would go well with a Concrete Everything workshop, including corporate team-building events, school workshops, birthday / hen's parties, and even casual gatherings with your friends and family. Don't hesitate, book your Concrete Everything concrete or jesmonite workshop today!
The concrete and jesmonite workshops are great for teenagers and adults. Working with concrete / jesmonite requires the use of fine motor skills and patience, so these workshops are generally not as suitable for young children.
Our studio workshop can hold up to 50 participants for the workshop. Due to Covid-19 restrictions, our studio's current maximum limit is 25 participants. For groups larger than 25, there are two options. 1. You can choose to book your own venue with a larger maximum capacity and our facilitators can travel to your location. 2. You can book a virtual jesmonite workshop instead for an unlimited number of participants. Virtual concrete workshops are not yet available - stay tuned!
For virtual jesmonite workshops, all the materials you need would be packed and delivered to you in an individual kit before the day of the virtual workshop. Our facilitators would then be conducting the workshop over Zoom, Microsoft Teams or any other online platform of your choice, and you and all of the other participants can enjoy a fun jesmonite session from the comfort of your own homes.

Marble Coaster Workshop in Singapore: Let’s Create Something Together

The marble coaster is a classic household item that has been around for centuries. It originated in ancient Greece where it was made of stone, often marble. These coasters were used to keep the furniture from being stained or damaged by hot dishes on the table. We are going to make some cool-looking coasters with many different shapes and colors.

What is a marble coaster and why do I need one

Marble coasters are decorative but functional. They are often used as decoration for tables, counters, or shelves. Marble coasters can also be used to prevent liquids from being spilled on surfaces. When you have a marble coaster at your disposal, drinks are less likely to spill and dilute the flavor of your drink of choice. So basically having a coaster of this beautiful and unique material is more than just stylish. You’re protecting your furniture and appliances while adding an elegant touch to your home or office!

Your friends and guests will love the coasters you make because everyone loves something that’s handmade. The price point of these items could be comparable to other decorative items; however, the process of making them makes each coaster one-of-a-kind and can definitely distinguish your creations from those found in stores.

As a DIY enthusiast, you can make any coasters to fit your unique style and décor. Coasters do not have to be round; there are many different shapes and sizes you can make, depending on the materials and tools you wish to use. For example, the basis of a coaster is simply a piece of paper covered in rubber cement. Then add on some objects, such as beads, buttons, or felt. You can also decorate coasters with images or words. This would be great for creating unique gifts!

Another great option is to use recycled materials. That means you’re recycling something old into something new and useful! For example, you could take a worn-out t-shirt and turn it into a super cute coaster! You can also use old tiles, printed-off images, or even seashells.

You are limited only by your imagination. Create patterns using colored pencils, experiment with glitter pens, or embrace the imperfections of handmade items by stamping on your coasters with random objects. The possibilities are endless!

Why marble is the perfect material for a coaster

Marble is a great material for this project because it’s lightweight and sturdy. You can also add texture to it with simple tools like sandpaper and paint to get different colors and designs. In class, you’ll learn the basics of working with this beautiful material as well as how to make your own special coasters. If you like, you can make multiple coasters as gifts for your family and friends as well as use the ones you make as decorations at home.

Tools you’ll need in class: For cutting the marble, you will use a Dremel tool with a diamond cutting disc. You can purchase one for your own purposes after taking this workshop if you have the money to spend on it. If not, just bring it back when class is over, or keep it! It’s up to you! You can also use it to cut other materials, such as metal and glass. For polishing the marble coaster, we will be using a Dremel tool with a polishing attachment.

Materials you’ll need: While any type of marble or stone that you want to work on is fine for this class, we recommend using something that isn’t too soft because it’ll be easier to work on. It should at least be harder than soapstone, which is easy to work with but can chip or break easily.

Tips for making your own unique marble coasters

Secondly, you can select to create your own marble coaster with an unusual shape or size. And if you really want to do things an interesting way, the instructions say that there are instructions for creating holiday-themed coasters.

The last section of the article provides a list of items that you will need in order to complete this project. All the materials are very easily available and you don’t have to purchase a lot of them either. Some examples include polyurethane, glue, a brush for spreading it, cardboard circles (for making stencils), and a pair of scissors.

Materials needed for the project are things that are easy to find anywhere. You can get them from any craft store, or simply order them online depending on your location. If you have some glue, polyurethane sealant, scissors, and a stencil maker (cardboard circles), you will be ready to make your own marble coasters!

The marble coaster workshop is quite easy to follow. It provides step-by-step instructions on how to create simple, yet beautiful coasters for your home or office. The materials are also easily available so you don’t have to worry about that! All in all, this tutorial offers a great opportunity for people who are looking at ways of beautifying their homes or offices.

In summary, the Marble Coaster Workshop provides an easy way of creating marble coasters at home. You can make them in various shapes and sizes, which makes this very flexible for your needs.
