There are 2 types of materials that you can choose from for your Concrete Everything workshop. Concrete is the main material used for larger crafts, while jesmonite was introduced as a light-weight alternative to cast concrete crafts and is now used as the second main material.
Jesmonite is a quick-dry building material comprising gypsum composite, which was acrylic-modified to become an eco-friendly and safe alternative to fibre glass and a lighter alternative to cast concrete. Jesmonite is not a food-grade product, so it is not safe to put food onto Jesmonite products directly. We recommend using a food-grade sealant to coat the Jesmonite product before use.
You will be able to bring your craft back on the day itself as jesmonite cures extremely quickly. However, do be more careful in handling your jesmonite piece for the next 24 hours as it would be more fragile, so try your best not to drop it.
The required materials include containers and measuring devices, jesmonite pigments and most importantly jesmonite powder and liquid! You would also need some tools to help you with the mixing. All these materials are provided for you at our jesmonite workshops, along with various add-ons such as sealant, and terrazzo flakes for our terrazzo workshops.
Concrete is a building material that is formed when fine and coarse material like sand, gravel and crushed stone are bound together and harden over time using a fluid cement paste, which is typically made by adding water to cement-like material.
The curing process for concrete will take around 3 to 4 days to reach its optimal strength and durability while the curing process for jesmonite takes around 6 to 24 hours for it to reach its optimal strength and durability. Both materials will further strengthen and become more durable over time with concrete taking months to years to reach its full strength and durability.
You will be able to bring your craft back on the day itself as concrete will set within 1 to 2 hours, which makes it suitable to be carried around. However, as the curing process for concrete takes at least 3 days, it is highly recommended handle your concrete crafts with care as the material is still fragile and prone to cracks during this time.
Our facilitators would start with a brief introduction of jesmonite, before moving onto the hands-on activity which includes a live demonstration. The session would conclude with a photo-taking session with everyone holding their completed jesmonite crafts.
No prior knowledge or experience is required for any Concrete Everything workshop! Our workshops are suitable for beginners and our skilled facilitators will bring you through the process of creating your concrete / jesmonite craft step-by-step. Not only would it be an enriching and fulfilling experience for you, but you also get to keep and admire your artwork after the workshop.

What you will learn

Terrazzo techniques are becoming more popular these days since they’re an excellent way to make something unique. Terrazzo Coaster Workshop is the perfect opportunity to learn how important terrazzo techniques can be. You’ll get a chance to work with your hands and create something new. It doesn’t matter what type of art you like, you’ll be able to learn something new and exciting. Terrazzo Coaster Workshop is the perfect way for artists and non-artists alike to come out of their shells and be better than before.

The benefits of making your own coasters

The benefits of making your own coasters are that you can make them any color, pattern, and design you want! This gives you the chance to express your uniqueness through your coasters. It can be a fun project for children or adults.

Terrazzo is a mixture of cement and marble dust. It is thinner than normal cement, has a smooth surface, and doesn’t easily chip or break. Terrazzo was originally used in Italy as an outdoor flooring material; however, it can now be found as indoor flooring as well as counters and tabletops. The process to create terrazzo is done by mixing and pouring the cement and then embedding marble pieces into it while still wet. Once the cement dries, you can polish or buff your new tabletop or flooring to get a smooth, shiny surface.

In this workshop, you’ll learn how to mix colors of concrete and add marble chips for an eye-catching, colorful surface. You can mix up to 15 colors for this project! Then, you’ll stamp the patterns into the wet cement mixture before it sets. Finally, you’ll learn how to simply polish your new coasters once they are dry.

Tips for choosing the perfect color palette for your project

If you are designing a website or the logo for your company, here are some tips for choosing the perfect color palette.

One of the best things that you can do is to actually pick out colors in real life and then bringing them into Photoshop or Illustrator to see how they work together. Try creating different variations of palettes and see what works best with your particular project. Having an underlying theme will help narrow down the types of colors that you’ll need. For example, if you are creating an infographic about saving endangered species in Africa, maybe use variations of yellow and brown in your color palette to represent this idea.

You also want to make sure that contrast is present between light and dark areas on your project. This will make the entire design more aesthetically pleasing. Also, since people are used to seeing black type on white paper or light background, try using a dark font on a light background or vice versa. Most likely you will do this anyway if your project is about saving endangered species in Africa because it’s already an established idea that most people connect with this.

In summary, This workshop is a great way to spend the day learning new skills and meeting other people who are passionate about crafts. Plus, once you’re done making your own coasters, they will last much longer than disposable paper or plastic versions since they don’t absorb liquids as those materials do. You can choose from a variety of colors to make your project unique and personal.
